MJ’s Will is Filed

In other MJ news, CNN reports that the King of Pop’s will, first written 7 years ago, has been filed in court, putting to rest all the speculation that’s been made on who would get what. According to the document, Jackson’s entire estate is bequeathed to the Michael Jackson Family Trust, with custody of his three children given to his mother Katherine Jackson. What’s interesting is that he nominated Diana Ross as the legal guardian of his children in the event that his mother was not alive, conveying just how tight the two had been when the cameras weren’t rolling. On top of that, MJ purposely left out his ex-wife Deborah Rowe Jackson, mother of his two oldest children. The kids have been temporarily placed under care of Katherine, but it’s soon to be determined in court whether or not she retains custody. While this is relatively big news in the aftermath of MJ’s death, we’re sure that there’s going to be a lot more to come, so keep your eyes peeled for further updates in the MJ saga.

MJ Slays Billboard

The early speculation on Michael Jackson’s sales appeared to be on point. This week, MJ made a killing on the Billboard Pop Catalog chart, taking the 1 through 9 spots and scanning over 415,000 copies. According to Billboard, Number Ones took the top position with 108,000 records sold, followed by The Essential Michael Jackson, Thriller, Off the Wall and the Jackson 5’s The Ultimate Collection in spots 2 through 5. Bad came in at number 6, with Dangerous at 7, Greatest Hits: HIStory Volume 1 at 8 and The Ultimate Collection at 9. The only non-MJ release in the top 10 is a reissue of the Woodstock movie in the last position. If you’re wondering why MJ couldn’t chart on the Billboard 200, you haven’t been doing your homework. Albums older than 18 months are ineligible to chart on the main album charts, regardless of sales. But even though MJ couldn’t make it onto the 200, he’s still the best-selling artist this week, an homage to the King of Pop that only the fans could provide.

Rapper Ace Hood took it to Miami to shoot the video for “Champion,” the latest single off his freshly released sophomore album Ruthless. The clip for the track, which features R&B maven Jazmine Sullivan and Rick Ross, features Ace and Jazmine kicking it on the set of the music video around Ace’s old stomping grounds, later taking it to a helipad on the top of a skyscraper where they’re joined by the Bawse. The video also features cameos from DJ Khaled and production wizards The Runners, and is the second single off the album to get a video treatment. On working with Jazmine on this record, Ace Hood told Showing Out, “Working with Jazmine is phenomenal. You know, before my whole situation as far as before I even worked with her, I did interviews pertaining to the fact that I wanted to work with her. So I just had a situation to work with her, and it’s been big. Shooting the video was big, we enjoyed ourselves. I brought her to that hood, that Miami date over town, so I mean, we did it real big and she had a lot of fun.”

R. Kelly: Not Again!

R&B’s most eccentric mind was lucky the first time around - you know, when he was declared not guilty on 14 counts of videotaping himself turning his key in that ignition with an underage girl. You think he would know better than to ever do something like that again, but low and behold, history repeats itself with the masked avenger. MediaTakeOut is exclusively reporting that a day before Kellz was about to ship off to South Africa for some touring, the boys in blue rolled up on his crib in Chicago with a search warrant to find a 17-year-old girl that had allegedly been shacking up with the singer for the past few days. Ironically, the girl had left 20 minutes before the po-po busted in. Still, the police are vigorously pursuing the case based on learned information that the girl had been getting down with Kelly before she turned 17 (the legal age of consent in Illinois). Now, R. Kelly is in South Africa, but we’ve got a good feeling the situation won’t disappear while he’s away.

Update: The Chicago Sun Times took to their Twitter page to say that no warrant had actually been issued to search R. Kelly’s house. If this is all just a load of B.S. and Kells is actually innocent in all this, we’re pretty sure he’ll have enough material from the experience to churn out about 12 more chapters in Trapped in the Closet.

HBO Gets “Hung”

It’s a big week for television. First, the BET Awards 2009 raked in 10.65 million viewers on Sunday night, the highest watched event or show in the channel’s history. Then, Monday’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 show nabbed 10.61 million viewers to earn the number one program for the ages of 18 to 49. Now, HBO’s newest series Hung premiered with excellent numbers on Monday evening, with 2.83 million viewers tuning in to check out the show about a male gigolo with a female pimp. This, according to Variety, makes Hung the most watched series premiere on HBO in the past two years, which is pretty impressive for a channel that seems to include new shows in programming every 5 minutes. Whether or not the show will retain those viewers is another story, but we’ll let them take their victory lap and have this moment.
