Yikes! This is some distressing news about the state of today’s youth. According to recent reports from Nielsen, kids are watching more TV these days than in recent years, with children aged 2 to 11 spending more hours in front of the television than they have since at least 2001. According to the report, kids from 2-5 average more than 32 hours in front of the TV per week, while children from 6-11 spend 28 hours per week, most likely because they have to be in school more often than the former age group. On top of those startling statistics, 97% of all periods of viewing tends to be during live broadcasts, with DVD, DVR playback and VCR viewing significantly smaller than that actual TV viewership. While the message here is clear, we’ll take it one step further: parents, get your kids away from the screen and put them outside!
