Trailer Talk: Mr. Nice

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 28 - 2010

Rhys Ifans might just have the best accent in all of British cinema, so here’s something to please your earholes. IGN just dropped off the trailer for Bernard Rose’s Mr. Nice, starring Ifans, Chloe Sevigny, Elsa Pataky, Andrew Tiernan and Jack Huston in this drug drama. Mr. Nice tells “The life story of Howard Marks (Rhys Ifans), a former teacher who achieved notoriety as a drug smuggler through connections with MI6, the IRA and the Mafia, and his eventual conviction at the hands of the DEA.” We love us some period piece stuff. Look out for this one when it hits limited theaters today, and don’t say we didn’t give you a heads up ahead of time.

Trailer Talk: Knight & Day

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 27 - 2010

After that horrid “viral clip” or whatever released a few weeks back from the set of Knight & Day, we get another international trailer instead of another attempt at going “viral” (can you even go viral if you’re calling your clip that?). Though we don’t get much new footage, it’s still worth a post. And if you don’t know, the film stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as a pair that meets on an airplane that crashes, only for them to rendez-vous the next day and start running for their lives. Of course, they encounter a handful of obstacles like shifty intentions and betrayals, with a bit of comedy sprinkled in. Knight & Day also stars Maggie Grace, Peter Sarsgaard, Marc Blucas, Paul Dano and Viola Davis, and hits theaters July 2nd.

Trailer Talk: Life as We Know It

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 27 - 2010

Geez, the last thing we need in this world is another rom-com starring Katherine Heigl. Yet here we are. Above is the new trailer for Life as We Know It, starring Heigl and Josh Duhamel in a film directed by Greg Berlanti. The flick focuses on a couple whose married friends end up suddenly passing away, leaving their baby Sophie to Heigl and Duhamel’s characters. The comedy here clearly comes from the fact that they’re severely unfit to act as parents, and if you watch the trailer, you’ll see that they’re pretty much the most abusive rents of all time. Which, to us, could actually be funny. Look for this one when it hits theaters October 8th.

Trailer Talk: Crazy

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 26 - 2010

Heard of Rick Bieber? No? Well here’s a good look at his directorial debut Crazy, headed straight to DVD on June 29th. Written by Bieber, Jason Ehlers and Brent Boyd, the film, which picked up a handful of awards on the festival circuit, stars Waylon Payne and Ali Larter in “the compelling story of legendary music pioneer, Hank Garland, who’s known as one of the greatest American musicians of the past century” (word to /Film for the heads up). Doesn’t look all that bad, though it really isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. Peep the above trailer and make the decision for yourself on whether or not to add this joint to the collection.

Trailer Talk: Morning Glory

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 26 - 2010

Hm… Looks like the unofficial sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, so it only makes sense that the upcoming comedy Morning Glory is written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the same scribe who slung ink for the Streep-starring script. Produced by J.J. Abrams (seriously), the film stars Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Patrick Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, Diane Keaton, 50 Cent (even more seriously) and more in this comedy that focuses on “an aspiring news producer (McAdams) [who] tries to save a failing morning show by getting control of its feuding anchors (Ford and Keaton).” Look for this one when it hits theaters November 12th.

Trailer Talk: The Last Exorcism

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 26 - 2010

Believe it or not, Eli Roth, also known as The Bear Jew from Inglourious Basterds, is a master of horror. His director crdits include Cabin Fever, Hostel and Hostel: Part II. But for his next film, The Last Exorcism, Roth is stepping back from directing and giving production another shot. The film, directed by Daniel Stamm, stars Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr and Louis Herthum in a flick that focuses on a evangelical minister’s last exorcism. Looks scary as hell, especially all those bones snapping and crawling on the ceiling and stuff. Look for this one when it hits theaters August 27th. Gonna frighten the bejesus out of you.

Trailer Talk: The Killer Inside Me (Domestic Version)

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 25 - 2010

We already got a peek at the UK trailer for The Killer Inside Me, so it’s about that time we check out the U.S. one. Based on Jim Thompson’s novel of the same name, the film once againlooks pretty brutal, starring Casey Affleck as sheriff Lou Ford, a man who leads a secret life as a murderer. The film also stars Jessica Alba as his lady friend (those two light slaps on the face are actually haunting), Bill Pullman and Liam Aiken, with plans to release the film in limited U.S. theaters beginning on June 18th. If this is anywhere as good as the festival reviews that have come out of the woodwork, this should be a goodie.

Trailer Talk: Alpha and Omega

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 25 - 2010

Man, we never thought we’d say this, but there are simply too many animated movies coming out. Whatever happened to live action blockbusters? Are kids really the driving force of international ticket sales? Apparently, yes. Above is the trailer for yet another animated movie, featuring the voices of Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Dennis Hopper, Christina Ricci, Christine Lakin and Danny Glover. The film focuses on two mismatched teen wolves (Long and Panettiere) who somehow end up with one another. Alpha and Omega is co-directed by animation filmmakers Anthony Bell and Ben Gluck from a script by Chris Denk. Be on the lookout for when this hits theaters in 3-D on September 17th.

Featurette: Despicable Me

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 24 - 2010

It’s a ways off for the theatrical release of Despicable Me, but why not start the promo machine as far ahead as possible? Above is a new featurette for the film, featuring interviews with the cast and some unseen footage from the movie. In the clip, Steve Carell speaks on his character Gru, while Jason Segel discusses his character Vector and Miranda Cosgrove chats about her character Margo. The film focuses on Gru, who is forced to rethink his plan to steal the moon after orphan girls convince him otherwise. In this clip, we get to see just how evil Gru really is, freezing a line of people waiting for their morning cup of joe and cutting right to the front. The film also stars Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Danny McBride, Jack McBrayer, Mindy Kaling, Jemaine Clement and Julie Andrews, and is slated to hit theaters July 9th. Enjoy.

Trailer Talk: Rio

Posted by ShowingOut On May - 24 - 2010

Another movie from the creators of the Ice Age trilogy? Sounds alright to us. Above is the trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Rio, featuring voice work from George Lopez, Neil Patrick Harris, Anne Hathaway, Rodrigo Santoro and Jake T. Austin. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the film focuses on “a nerdy macaw who leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro. He embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, learning to open himself up to all that life has to offer along the way.” Looks cute, good comic timing. The flick also features a soundtrack from Sergio Mendes and will.i.am, so you know they’ve got it locked in on the musical tip. Look for this one when it flies into theaters April 8, 2011.
